found in a bag behind some furniture
So, I used to make these little watercolors all the time. I miss doing it. They aren't masterpieces, but I really like them. I think I'll make more.

um...could there be a better movie?!
So I need to work on my website and i decided to watch this gem. Strippers (jenna Jameson being the head stripper) get infected with a disease that turns them into zombies. Apparently being a zombie makes the girls able to strip better than ever before. They strip a whole lot and in between songs they each kill a guy (in varying bloody ways). Could there be a more brilliant idea or a more entertaining movie? I say not a chance!

Too much? I say no way!
So....I'm back at this web design thing (actually I'm monitoring the digital lab at the moment and am taking a break from the web design thing to blog). I was going to get all involved and have things open and look all cool etc. I ran out of time and wound up using an older idea that, it turns out, I really love. It's not going to be my official site because I'm not sure if I did all the saving etc. correctly, but it's as close as you can get to my apartment without actually entering my apartment. All it really needs is a wood grain thermos and a low-rider orange and brown striped couch and it's perfect!

i hate web design
The color is all weird as soon as I save for web. It's taking me so long to do every little thing and then when I check it, it's inevitably wrong which means I have to not only change the original file, but all the html files no longer work. I know I'm doing it the long and wrong way, but it's so damn confusing.

how much do i love these?
so i just found this lindsay hinkle on natasha's blog. apparently she goes to tyler (i don't know a lot of people, so it's no big surprise that she goes there without me knowing her....) and i am in love with this work. fabric, paint, leaning naked ladies, farm animals, old furniture. what more could a person possibly want or need in a work of art? nice work lindsay.

Nikon D300 vs. Canon 50D
Okay, so I'm looking for a new camera. I have been shooting Olympus, but need to upgrade to a camera with a larger sensor and more lens choices. I need to go with Canon or Nikon. Soooo do I wait for the 50D in October or go with the best current Nikon (D300) in my price range? Apparently Nikon flash systems and low light capabilities are better, while Canon has the focusing perfect. The 50D is supposed to completely rival the D300 where the 40D couldn't, but the Canon glass is apparently preferable and that's ultimately the most important part right? I'm so confused and consumed by this that I'm annoying everyone I know with constant questions and camera discussion. I should buy the guy at Calumet a present for having to deal with me for an hour of questions today! I wish someone would just tell me what to do!

camera malfunction
i made these for an alt. process assignment. i liked them, so i took a few pictures.....then i situated my lighting and set up my tripod to actually shoot them as i lit them. it was so cool! they would catch on fire from each other and burn in big gusts then slow down and start again. took A LOT of pictures. as i was setting the last group on fire.....i had a card error. lost all the pictures. so mad i could scream and cry.

is pretty wrong?
at school we learn the importance of making images that are meaningful. concept concept concept. i find that often-times the images i see on a regular basis are so highly conceptual that they aren't really very nice to look at. sometimes it's really refreshing to take or look at a picture that is purely aesthetic....a pretty picture. my mom always wondered why all my photos are "weird". i always got all artisty on her and tried to convince her that it's so much more important to have an intellectually charged concept behind an image than a strictly visually attractive one. the longer i'm in school the more jaded i become and the more i start to appreciate pretty images. thank you kenny weng for these pretty images. http://www.moodaholic.com/

statement or no statement
i am in love. i just stumbled across a photographer, nadav kander, ( www.nadavkander.com ) who seems to photograph an extremely wide range of subjects without losing quality from subject to subject. he's apparently pretty famous (has done a lot of work for big names). i love his series dream girls. i am guessing it's images of prostitutes, but, because i can't find a statement anywhere on his site, i have no idea. the images are visually similar to the storyville portraits of bellocq, which is, quite possibly, why i'm making the prostitute connection. Additionally, there's a series called rest/stay that features really well composed images of hotel rooms...usually including a bed and either porn on the t.v. or an indication that the hotel itself is a destination one would take a prostitute or a sexual affair of sorts. the images, though alluding to sex, aren't overt and are really beautifully done. i love him, but i want a damn artist's statement!

if only i had the funds....
In order to find ourselves we must destroy ourselves. The human race craves the experience. - Floria Sigismondi
so many photographers try to make images that are about nightmares/dreamlike scenes. most of the time i think they half-reach the goal.....or maybe that's only because they are images of dreams that i don't have. floria sigimondi takes photographs of exactly what i recognize as dreams and nightmares. her sets are elaborate and visually stimulating. there are an awesome amount of textures and colors, the focus and depth of field is widely varying and always dead on. her images are extremely ambitious and involved and she manages to get every detail dead on. if only i had the money to construct and light these elaborate scenes.......go floria sigismondi
